Digital Movies

On July 15th, I participated in a bit of movie history by watching the all-digital version of StarWars on the Texas Instruments projector at the AMC theater in Burbank, CA. I honestly didn't expect to see a difference, but... wow! Colors seemed to have a greater dynamic range (especially towards the lighter and darker ends of the scale), and really fine details were much more noticeable. The pixel size was amazing; upon examing the screen during the final creditst, it seemed that the pixels were about the width of my little finger, maybe a little less (about three-eights of an inch) and each pixel was divided into four quadrants (subpixels).

Very cool! Goodbye, film (and good riddance!). Does this mean that soon movies will be rated like CD's, with ADD indicating digitally remastered and DDD indicating digital-through-and-through?
