Spaceship One

We, my colleagues John Rector, Lee Rottler, and I, went on the 2h drive from L.A. to Mojave Airport in the
(very) early morning of June 21. After the White Knight had taken off with Spaceship One strapped
under the belly, we had to wait about an hour of waiting until they reached altitude. Most pictures are from
this period. The event itself, however, was a bit hard to see, since the sun was in the same direction.
We also had a perfectly blue sky, so the tiny craft were hard to see and the eyes have quite some trouble
to focus without any reference. It was still a great event, and we certainly had the sense that we had attended a
historic event, the first privately undertaken flight into space.

Pictures taken on July 21, 2004 at Mojave airport on color slide film. Some pictures are enlarged up to the maximum film grain resolution (© B. Schulz 2004).
