MAPCOR PSF Magnitude Normalization Values
T. Evans and D. Kirkpatrick - IPAC
[Note: This is a brief report of work mostly done by D. Kirkpatrick.]
While we were making the first cut at parameter tuning, to attempt
to get better default PSF mag normalization values in the MAPCOR look-up
table, Davy Kirkpatrick analyzed the normalization values determined by
MAPCOR for the scans in the same 11 photometric nights of data:
970521n
970608n
971003n
971004n
971005n
971006n
971007n
971009n
971010n
971011n
971019n
(In this case, the science scans and calibration scans were not separated.)
Combining all nights' data together for each PSF used, histograms of
the normalization values were made. They can be viewed here:
The histograms for PSFs 00010, 00011, and 00012 are definitely bi-modal;
this behavior is most likely caused by seeing variations, as shown in another
preliminary PSF normalization analysis.
As seen on the plots, all of the mean and median PSF mag normalization
values are ~1.5, within the errors. More analysis, more scans' data,
and especially more PSFs for various seeing conditions are needed to further
refine the look-up table values for MAPCOR.
