Frank J. Masci – IPAC Staff Scientist
Frank Masci
was born and raised in Melbourne, a port-side city located
in Australia's south-east. He received a BSc (Hons) degree
in Physics in 1993 and a PhD in Astrophysics
from the University of Melbourne in 1997 under the supervision
of Dr. Rachel Webster - a former student of Sir Martin Rees.
Frank was hired in 1998 as a post-doc at IPAC/Caltech to support the
Wide-field Infra-Red Explorer mission
(WIRE). At that time, the
WISE project (then NGSS) was being conceived. He then joined
the Spitzer Science Center
(SSC)
at Caltech in 2000 where he served
as Cognizant Scientist for data processing
and astrometric calibration. He later became
Deputy Downlink System Engineer. He joined the
Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer
(WISE) project in May 2007
where he is currently the Cognizant Scientist for instrumental
calibration and image coaddition/mosaicking. Frank's research
interests are in quasars, cosmic large scale structure, and astrostatistics.
In his spare time he enjoys mountain climbing, skiing, tennis,
cooking, and pondering the intricate patterns of nature.
