A nice comprehensive guide to African penguins. Just a lot of info here -- penguins date back 60 million years (wow -- that's an astronomical number!), are flightless, use wings as flippers, bones are filled with air.. and emperor penguins can dive to depths of 535 m and can be submerged for 18min! The South African penguins are endemic to Sout h Africa and were formerly called jackass penguins because of their braying (see movie 3) - return each year to their former nests!
