Computing (general) Your computing needs at SSC or IPAC will be met by the Information Systems Group (ISG). When you get here you will typically be given a Solaris or a Linux box with an account (username@ipac.caltech.edu). The ISG also supports PCs. Macintoshes are currently not supported by the ISG but the number of Macs has been growing steadily and you should have no problems using them to do your work. While we have tried to address some basic questions here, we highly encourage you to peruse the following ISG pages and documents: ISG Main page ISG Docushare Note that if you have any kind of a request (hardware, software, printer problems, etc.), start a ticket so that the problem can be tracked and resolved by the ISG. Ticket writing Submission of online tickets is through the IPAC Systems Group (ISG) Help Desk. You will need a login ID and password. You should have received these when you got your computer account. |
