A 24micron Flux Limited mid-IR Spectroscopy Survey in the XFLS
A Brief Summary
The sample has 150 24um sources with S(24um) > 0.9mJy. The IRS spectra of these 150 sources were taken in low resolution, roughly from 7-35um. The spectra have all been reduced and finalized. Roughly 120 spectra provide measurable redshifts, and the remaining are powerlaw spectra. The spectral fitting will be done with both Anna Sajina's code and PAHFIT from J.D. Smith. I have written a detailed description of the sample selection, sample biases in
the document here.
Science Goals and Crude Plan
One of the basic goals is to address What fraction of IR luminous population is AGN/SB?. This fraction must be a function of luminosity and redshift. We will use mid-IR spectral features (PAH and continuum) to separate AGN versus SB. See a crude estimate in Figure 7 in the draft here.
Currently a crude plan is to put all spectra and spectral fitting to the first paper, then write a short paper to present the luminosity functions as L(8um), z, type , and estimate the luminosity density from AGN/SB at various redshifts.
