Message from Rae:
I have prepared a snowflake pattern of 13th magnitude fake stars
around a 2nd magnitude JCAT star for evaluation. The files are
now being transferred to holly {jhk}fkmag2.rdo.
The 2nd magnitude star is in image 173 scan 50 980609n. Original
data files are {jhk}0466050.rdo.
The 2nd magnitude star is at
267.1967 45.6998 jm=3.4 hm=2.4 km=2.0
The borrowed star is at
267.188711 45.740993 jm=7.536 hm=7.015 km=6.926. The borrowed star
image has been scaled to magnitude 13 in all bands before the snowflake
pattern was generated.
6 circles of fake stars with a radial separation of 5 pixels are in the
snowflake.
I have been unable to generate all 6 images of every star so the detected
magnitudes will have to be scaled for missing images.
Rae
The following images show J, H and Ks
Atlas Images with artificial 13th mag stars placed in a snowflake
pattern around the primary Ks=2.0 star.
The table below lists extracted positions and
JHKs magnitudes and errors of the
simulated stars in the snowflake pattern. No sources were extracted at the
position of the primary star since it is saturated. All simulated stars
were detected in the pipeline EXCEPT for the
innermost ring at 5 arcsec separation where NONE of them were detected.
Detections are often split into three separate single-band detections.
Simulated stars at 10 and 15 arcsec appear partially or completely drowned out
by the diffraction spikes.
Along each arm of the
pattern, stars are separated by 5 pixels, and the source names refer
to the arm and position from the primary.
Positions, magnitudes and errors
are listed along with the following flags: Read, Blend,
Persistence, Glint, Diffraction and Confusion.
