I. Overview

• Preliminary 2MASS data processing yielded data products that meet the Level 1 Science Requirements in most regions, with the possible exception of global uniformity. Data that do not meet the requirements of the Survey were identified and rejected during Quality Assurance review.



• The primary objective of final 2MASS data processing is uniformity -
  
  Run all data through the same software system - 2MAPPS v3.0



• Modifications/improvements to pipeline prioritized according to the following criteria:
  
  
  1. Fixes to known bugs or deficiencies that compromise Level 1 Requirements
  2. Incorporate knowledge of the system performance and the near-infrared sky accumulated over mission to benefit uniformity and general data quality, where practical
  3. Incorporate external products not available before to improve uniformity
  4. Addition of diagnostics to improve and/or expedite scientific quality validation and final product generation
  5. Modifications to improve efficiency and runtime of current algorithms
  6. Modifications to improve data quality beyond Level 1 Requirements, if possible



• Boundary Conditions on Modifications/Improvements

  2. Modifications/Improvements cannot increase pipeline runtime by more than ~25%
  
  
  
  3. Final uniform processing limited to data taken under conditions known to meet survey quality requirements for atmospheric transparency, seeing, background, etc. (e.g. no attempt made to increase yield of data).
