********************************************************************* ********************************************************************* ANNOUNCING...... THE NINTH "ANNUAL" GREATER IPAC SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM Date: Thursday and Friday, January 22 and 23, 2009 Location: Beckman Institute Auditorium Reception: Keith-Spalding 410, Friday January 23, 5-7pm ********************************************************************* ********************************************************************* The ninth annual Greater IPAC Science Symposium will he held on Thursday and Friday, January 22 and 23, 2009. The Science Symposium is a forum for all staff of IPAC, the Spitzer Science Center (SSC) and the NASA Exoplanet Science Institute (NExScI) to present, discuss and learn about the diverse research that is being carried out at the "Greater IPAC." The atmosphere is informal, and the location is designed to get us away from our offices and project work for a while to let us focus on IPAC science. All projects are being asked to cancel project meetings for the two days of the Symposium, and to give consideration of the meeting when assigning deadlines. As in past years, the format of the Symposium includes 15 minute contributed talks from Greater IPAC science staff. In addition, each day there will be one or two Invited Talks given by science staff members. The final presentation made on Friday will be a "State of IPAC" address presented by IPAC Executive Director George Helou. All Greater IPAC staff members are invited to attend. We will return to the Beckman Institute Auditorium (not to be confused with the Beckman Auditorium) for the Symposium this year. Following the talks on Friday, January 23, the GISS reception will be held in KS-410, where the sciences of good food and conversation are the grand finale. Again, all IPACers are invited! A Call for Titles will be made on on about December 22, and titles will be due by January 13, 2009. Please check the GISS 2009 web page (http://web.ipac.caltech.edu/staff/roc/giss/2009/) for further details. Remember to ask Santa for new Hawaiian shirts to wear to the Symposium! For questions, please contact Roc Cutri (roc@ipac.caltech.edu) or Bill Latter (latter@ipac.caltech.edu) GISS Co-chairs.
