Hello and welcome!

I am the "System Scientist" for the Spitzer Science Center at Caltech. Spitzer (originally, SIRTF - the Space Infrared Telescope Facility) is the last of the NASA "Great Observatories", and was launched in August 2003. Spitzer is now in its "Warm Mission" extended phase, and is still operating and doing exciting science. I am also a CoI for the IRAC camera - one of the three science instruments on Spitzer, and the only instrument still operating in the extended phase.

When I have some spare time, my primary research interest is in various aspects of the evolution of low mass stars, and in particular low mass stars in young open clusters and star forming regions.

Current Research

During the past half dozen or more years, my research focus has been on three large projects: YSOVAR - a program using Spitzer and a large number of ground-based facilities to study the Orion Nebula Cluster, one of the nearest and best known star-forming regions; CSI2264 - a program combining simultaneous monitoring of young stars in the NGC 2264 star-forming region for an entire month using the French CoRoT satellite and Spitzer in tandem; and K2Clusters - a program using the re-purposed Kepler space telescope to obtain light curves for hundreds of young, low mass stars in the Pleiades, Hyades and Praesepe open clusters. The K2Clusters program is still in progress, though we have published a couple papers already on eclipsing binaries in the Pleiades and Hyades and we expect that papers on rotational velocities and flares in those clusters to come out in 2016. A few recent papers of mine are listed below.

Papers and Publications

This is a collection of some of my recent work. If you want to know what I work on, have a look. Abstracts from recent papers: If you want to look at the whole paper, the easiest way to do that is to go to the NASA ADS website and do a search for papers by J. Stauffer in the appropriate date range. The references for the above papers are:
