WIRE Glossary

  • ATS : Absolute Time Sequence
  • BIB : Blocked Impurity Band (mode used with WIRE Si:As detectors.)
  • CO-Adds : Number of sub-frames in a WIRE frame.
  • FOV : Field Of View.
  • FPA : Focal Plane Array.
  • Frame : Single WIRE image (comprised of several subframes) only the frames are downloaded from the spacecraft, not the subframes.
  • GSFC : Goddard Space Flight Center.
  • IOC : In-Orbit Checkout (first week of mission).
  • RTS : Relative Time Sequence
  • Segment : One observation consisting of several WIRE frames.
  • SOC : Science Operations Center (IPAC 2nd floor).
  • SODA : Science Operations and Data Analysis.
  • SMEX : NASA Small Explorer Mission.
  • Spin Time : Exposure time of one sub-frame.
  • Subframe : A single read from entire FPA (12 bits per pixel).
  • WIEBOX : WIRE Instrument Electronics Box
  • WIRE : Wide-Field Infrared Explorer
