This page organizes all the webpages of 2MASS in "Table of Contents" format, although these pages do not form a coherent whole as might be implied by a "Table of Contents". Pages are placed only in one location, so check related sections for further information on some topics. For example, the analysis section often has webpages that give further camera and telescope performance information. One exception is that pages found under "Data products fundamental limits" are repeated since it is likely that one would forget to look under that section for galaxy photometric results, for example.

This list is designed to be comprehensive, and thus includes pages that have been superseded by changes in the telescopes, cameras, survey strategy, and processing software. Superseded pages have been moved to the end of each section as much as possible, and the most relevant or useful pages are placed at the beginning of each section. If you put up a new 2MASS page, please email me.

A searchable index to most of these webpages is also available. Be aware that the index is not yet "operational" as of 01May98, so is not updated regularly yet. It is definitely possible that some webpages appear only here, and others only in the index.

This file has grown to over 50 KB as of 01May98, but I have left it as one webpage so that searches for keywords can be more easily performed. The intent is that a reader would download this file just once per update, and use the local copy until the next update.

We allow the public access to these pages for two reasons:

  1. The goal of 2MASS is to release data to the community as soon as possible, and therefore we feel it is only proper for interested people to be able to view the progress of the survey and the quality of the data.
  2. By making this information available, it makes it much easier for us to have others help us as needed with validation of the data.
Please keep in mind that all projects have problems at their beginnings that are later solved, and hence no conclusions about the quality of the in-the-end released 2MASS data should be made from anything in this document. Many of the problems discussed in our webpages will not be problems in the released data.
