Tom Jarrett has analyzed the effect on Galworks of the J background jump noticed recently. Figure 1 shows one coadd of scan 16 of 970715. On the left is the J raw image, the center shows the background solution, and on the right is the background-subtracted image.
The raw frame on the left shows a jump in the background of 0.45 DN, which survives in almost its entirety, 0.40 DN, to the background subtracted-image on the right.
Figure 2 shows the extracted sources on top of the coadd. Far more sources are extracted in the dark bands than in the light areas, implying that the reliability of the extended source extractions has gone to nearly zero.
